Best Pierogies in Toronto

12-06-19 | Best In Toronto

Pierogies (or is it perogies? The debate continues!) are one of those dangerously delicious snack foods. We’ve found that the best are made from scratch, by hand, and these Eastern European dumplings are one of the city’s best comfort foods – especially during those colder months! Here’s our picks for the ultimate pierogi experiences in Toronto.

Loaded Pierogi – 839 Queen St W

With another location on Church St, this is a fast and delicious way to eat the food so good, they had to put its name on the door. With plenty of options to choose from, food will come out quickly with exceptionally friendly service. Situated in the trendy Queen West nearby Trinity Bellwoods park, don’t be surprised to see well-dressed fashionistas nibbling away to a dumpling dipped in sour cream.

Dirty Food – 3070 Dundas St W

A restaurant mantra that they wear on their sleeves, Dirty Food does just that – deliver amazing comfort brunch food in a comfy atmosphere in the Junction. Their handmade cheese and potato-stuffed pierogies, with smoked sour cream and caramelized onion (drool!), you’ll savour every bite of these pockets of paradise.

Country Style Hungarian Restaurant – 450 Bloor St W

A list like this isn’t complete without an authentic Eastern European establishment – like this gem in the Annex. The décor may be no-frills, but the hearty food makes up for it. And the pierogies are no exception – served with fried onions, coleslaw and homemade sour cream as well as a slew of topping options.

Tennessee Tavern – 1554 Queen St W

The best way to describe this restaurant would be ‘kitschy’ – marvellously excessive with portions, and we’re certainly not complaining! This Parkdale mainstay’s pierogies are close to perfection – both in texture, and taste. A traditional cheddar and potato comes accompanied with smooth sour cream, fried onions and crushed up bacon bits to bring all the flavours together. Their outdoor patio is a perfect setting to enjoy these pillows of deliciousness during the warmer months.
