Softy, succulent, fluffy pockets of pure joy, topped with a tantalizing dollop of icing sugar? Grab me a napkin to stop me drooling! Toronto isn’t exactly short in establishments offering amazing cupcakes, but we soldiered through a wide selection of strong candidates to choose our top picks in the city.
Prairie Girl Bakery – 18 King Street East
This quaint shop just off of Victoria Street specializes in all types of cupcakes – from gluten-free to vegan options. Feast on exceptional flavours like banana chocolate, carrot cream cheese and funfetti. Best of all – whatever doesn’t get sold (though that hasn’t been a problem yet) will be donated to Second Harvest.
Bunners – 244 Augusta Avenue
Vegans rejoice! This Kensington Market haunt is starting to become a pilgrimage site for those seeking alternative cupcakes in the city. Their brownies are to die for, whereas the cinnamon buns are as good as you’ll find anywhere else – definitely one for the culinary bucket list!
The Rolling Pin – 1970 Avenue Road
As one of Toronto foremost most well-known bakeries, this Lawrence Avenue institution has been known to blow customers away with their ostentatious designs (see their unicorn horn cupcake just as a taster of what they offer). As much of an art exhibition as a bakery, your senses will be inundated with stimulation here.
Dlish – 833 Queen Street East
Time to indulge in confectionary from one of the most fashionable streets in the world. Their offerings may seem rudimentary, but their flavours are out of this world! Look out for their classic dulche de leche, or cookies or cream cupcakes to sink your teeth into.
There were so many places to choose from! Let us know which providers of cupcake goodness did we leave out.
